This course covers a broad scope of American History from settlement to superpower through the lens of film. During this course, we will watch historical films, each dedicated to an event, person, or era of American History. Prior to watching the films, students will learn about the geographic and historic factors that combined to create the historical topic of the film. Students will also use maps as well as primary and secondary source documents to create a framework for understanding the area and time. Students will participate in a variety of fun critical thinking activities to evaluate the film in comparison to actual events. (Films in consideration: 6th grade: Hamilton, Gods and Generals, Gettysburg, Sound of Music, Remember the Titans, Hidden Figures, Apollo 13, Good Night and Good Luck, Secretariat. 7th/8th grade: The Crossing, John Adams, Lincoln, Ironed Jawed Angels, Selma, Forest Gump, Thirteen Days, The Right Stuff, Bridge of Spies)
